Import Data
Import bulk data into Taskr from spreadsheets and other systems. Migrate customer lists, assets, products, and more using CSV files.Access: Owners and Admins can import data. See Role Definitions for details.
Overview
The import feature allows you to:Accessing Data Import
- Go to Settings > Import Data
- Or navigate directly to
/settings/import
Supported Data Types
Import Process
Step 1: Download Template
- Go to Settings > Import Data
- Select the data type to import
- Click Download Template
- Open the CSV file in a spreadsheet application
Step 2: Prepare Your Data

Step 3: Upload File
- Save your spreadsheet as CSV (UTF-8 encoding)
- Return to Settings > Import Data
- Select the data type
- Click Upload File
- Select your CSV file
- Click Open
Step 4: Map Columns
Taskr attempts automatic column mapping. Review and adjust:- View the column mapping screen
- For each Taskr field, select the matching CSV column
- Use Skip for columns you do not want to import
- Click Continue
Step 5: Preview and Validate
Before importing, review the preview:

Step 6: Import
- Review the preview summary
- Decide how to handle duplicates:
- Skip - Do not import duplicates
- Update - Overwrite existing records
- Create New - Allow duplicates
- Click Import
- Wait for the import to complete
- Review the results summary
Import Results
After import completes:Downloading Error Reports
If errors occurred:- Click Download Error Report
- Open the CSV file
- Review error messages for each failed row
- Fix issues in your original file
- Re-import only the corrected rows

Tips for Successful Imports
- Start with a small test batch (10-20 records) before full import
- Use the provided templates to avoid formatting issues
- Clean your data before import (remove duplicates, fix formatting)
- Back up existing data before performing updates
- Import related data in order (customers before contacts, locations before assets)
- Check for existing records to prevent duplicates
- Use consistent naming conventions
Troubleshooting
File Won’t Upload
- Verify file is in CSV format
- Check file size is under 10MB
- Ensure file is not open in another application
- Try a different browser if issues persist
Many Validation Errors
- Download and review the template again
- Check date and number formats
- Verify lookup values match exactly
- Ensure required fields are populated
Import Takes Too Long
- Large files may take several minutes
- Do not close or refresh the browser
- Split very large files into smaller batches
- Contact support if import does not complete
Duplicate Records Created
- Check duplicate handling setting before import
- Review matching criteria (usually email or name)
- Merge duplicates after import if needed
- Use Update mode for subsequent imports
